The player's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had caused observers to question if his capacity to play at the top level was over.
But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serve.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five games to take the lead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to push for a third set.
The opponent defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
