The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of the horror genre: Sit down with your partner and watch Together. This independent film success of 2025 recently had its online premiere via Hulu. At first glance, it could look like conventional physical horror, but beneath Together resides a profound meditation about how we choose to love each other.

A Debut Feature Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a particular energy to their roles, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The plot starts when Millie and Tim move from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the reality he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the sort of issues that are inherent in any relationship a decade in. At their core, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the metaphor does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could act as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
