The Video Platform Offers The Community Authority to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Media in Timelines

TikTok is introducing a fresh option that permits them to reduce the quantity of AI-created videos appearing in their streams. This move comes as the service disclosed that it currently hosts over 1 thousand million AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a global rollout. This advancement coincides with a rise in content created by AI, fueled by new content generation software.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that approximately a tenth of the most rapidly expanding content creators on another major platform primarily display AI-generated videos. A large amount of this content is considered mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is frequently nonsensical or surreal.

“We know from our community that many people like content made with AI tools, ranging from AI artwork to educational videos, and we aim to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, based on their own choices,” said a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The platform disclosed that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its app identified as artificially created. In total, more than 100 m media items are added to the service daily, making clips made by AI a limited percentage of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Viewers will be in a position to decrease or raise the level of AI-generated videos they view by accessing the “manage topic” option in the app and picking “AI-generated content”. Further subjects that can already be modified under the filter cover current affairs, style, aesthetics, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

TikTok’s policies mandate content makers to tag lifelike AI-generated content, and it forbids malicious AI impersonations of celebrities or crisis events. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is unmarked can be deleted under its terms of service.

Additionally, the service will from now on attach an artificially created watermark to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for spotting content made by AI. This measure is designed to help prevent users from seeking to circumvent the labeling process.

AI Literacy Programs

TikTok is also introducing a $2 million awareness program for specialists and groups to develop informative material about ethical AI use. This initiative will assist charitable organizations specializing in training programming and robotics.

Content Safety Approach

TikTok has supported its safety measures, amid controversy over proposals to lay off a large number of content moderators in Britain. The company is planning to eliminate a significant number of roles in its user protection department in its British office, with trade unions and online safety experts voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but automated tools can protect employees by eliminating the most graphic content prior to it is viewed by humans. The platform reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content reviewed by content reviewers over the previous year due to reliance on its automated systems.

We believe it is crucial to combine staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with dangerous material as swiftly, which is where a lot of the machine support is proving valuable process content quickly.”
